The class lost a stalwart Tar Heel in Larry’s passing March 17, 2025. Born and raised in Winston-Salem, he graduated from Reynolds High School as class president. At Princeton, Larry was on freshman crew, joined ROTC, became a Keyceptor and Chapel Deacon, majored at Woodrow Wilson, and joined Cottage Club.

After graduation, Larry married Sandra Holderness while earning a law degree at Duke University in 1963. He served two years in Army intelligence in Washington, D.C., and acquired an MBA in business at George Washington University at night. He then returned to Winston-Salem and the practice of law.

Larry dedicated himself to everything he undertook. He practiced law for more than 50 years and served four terms in the North Carolina General Assembly. He served in numerous church and civic organizations, in Winston-Salem until 1982 and thereafter in Raleigh. The church and his faith grew more important to him over time. He enjoyed a rich life, too, as an active outdoorsman in many pursuits, always with family and with friends old and new.

Larry is survived by Sandra; their four children, including Bert ’88, and their spouses; and six grandchildren. We send our sympathies to them all.
