Peter Chopivsky ’74

Peter died April 19, 2010.  

Peter was the ultimate Princetonian. He loved the University and Tower Club and attended every reunion since graduation. His first car after graduating was an orange Porsche 914. And one of the first songs he taught his children was the Tiger “locomotive.”

Roommate Joel Smith recalls that Pete was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage, and one year drove all over New Jersey in order to find a Ukrainian Orthodox church for Easter services. Joel had to learn to say “Indeed, he is risen” in Ukrainian to welcome Peter back to their room after the service.

After Princeton, Peter attended the George Washington University School of Medicine, served as a professor at UCLA’s medical school, then moved to Leesburg, Va., and started a solo family practice, determined to practice modern medicine delivered the old-fashioned way. He committed himself to the Leesburg community, volunteering at the Loudoun Free Clinic and leading various charitable organizations.  

Peter was remarkably charming, and a sincere and loyal friend as well. Our condolences to his wife, Ann, and his children, Katya, Maria, Lesya, and Peter Jr.
