Bob was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated from James Madison High School. He majored in SPIA and was a member of Prospect Club and Whig-Clio, president of Hillel, and a waiter in Commons. He roomed with Tician Papachristou and Herb Strauss.

After graduation, Bob went on to serve in the Navy during the Korean War. A 1957 graduate of Harvard Law School, he practiced law on Long Island and Manhattan for more than three decades.

Bob enjoyed a lifeong love of travel. After retiring, he litigated as a volunteer for the Center for Constitutional Rights. He was an active organizer of class reunions and held deep respect for President Christopher Eisgruber ’83.

Bob died May 5, 2025, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan Pivar; and sons Jonathan ’84 and Matthew.
