Gillett Griffin, a longtime University curator and collector of ancient American art, died June 9 in Princeton. He was 87. Griffin was curator of graphic arts in the University Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections division from 1952 to 1966. He joined the University Art Museum in 1967 as curator of pre-Columbian and Native American art, building his own and the museum’s collections. He retired in 2005 and donated much of his private collection to the museum. Griffin also taught courses on pre-Columbian art at Princeton.
