Quick Takes: Women’s Open Crew Wins Ivies

At the Ivy League Championships on the Cooper River, Princeton women’s open crew avenged a season-opening loss to top-ranked Brown, beating the Bears by 4.3 seconds in the varsity eight final May 18. It was the third Ivy title in four years for the Tigers; stroke Kelsey Reelick ’14 has rowed for each of the three championship boats. In the men’s heavyweight crew varsity eight, Princeton earned bronze — its first Eastern Sprints medal since 2011 — and collected additional medals in the second- and fourth-varsity eights. The women’s lightweight crew also claimed a bronze medal in the Eastern final, placing third behind Harvard and Wisconsin. The men’s lightweight crew placed third as well, behind Cornell and Yale, edging fourth-place Columbia by less than 0.3 seconds. In men’s track and field, Matt McDonald ’15’s victory in the 10,000-meter run headlined Princeton’s results in the IC4A/ECAC meet at Weaver Stadium. Women’s track and field star Julia Ratcliffe ’16 added another first-place finish, her ninth straight, capturing the ECAC hammer throw with a toss of 69.1 meters.
