Liz Costello ’10 of the WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY team, left, beat her own meet record to win a third consecutive individual title at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in the Bronx, N.Y., Oct. 30. The Princeton women won their fourth-straight team title with unprecedented dominance: Costello, Alex Banfich ’12, Sarah Cummings ’11, Ashley Higginson ’11, and Reilly Kiernan ’10 swept the top five spots. In MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY, Columbia thwarted Princeton’s title chase, beating the Tigers by one point. Brian Leung ’12 (third place) and Donn Cabral ’12 (sixth) were Princeton’s top finishers.
Antoine Hoppenot ’12 scored two goals, including one in overtime, as MEN’S SOCCER upset 11th-ranked Harvard 2–1 Oct. 24. The Tigers evened their Ivy record at 2–2 and improved to 7–5–2 overall.
WOMEN’S SOCCER held opponents scoreless in five straight games — three wins and two ties — from Oct. 7–24. Through Oct. 25, the Tigers led all Ivy teams in goals-against (0.82 per game) and shutouts (seven).
Consecutive wins against Dartmouth, Columbia, and Cornell helped WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL post a 4–3 record in the first half of its Ivy schedule.
The 2005–06 Princeton MEN’S BASKETBALL season — a year in which the Tigers went 10–4 in Ivy play and finished second to Penn — is featured in the new book Outside the Limelight: Basketball in the Ivy League, by Washington Post reporter Kathy Orton.
Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool will host the NCAA Final Four for MEN’S WATER POLO Dec. 5–6. To earn a berth in the championships, the Tigers (10–10) will need to win the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s Eastern tournament, to be held Nov. 20–22. Princeton last reached the Final Four in 2004.
