One of the most remarkable streaks in Princeton athletics ended Feb. 5 when MEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING dropped a home meet to Navy, losing at DeNunzio Pool for the first time since it opened in 1990. The Tigers had won 92 consecutive dual meets at home.
Harvard topped WOMEN’S BASKETBALL in Cambridge Feb. 4, halting the Tigers’ 22-game winning streak in Ivy League games. Princeton trailed by 10 at halftime but pushed ahead late in the game, taking a three-point lead with 2:46 remaining. The Crimson responded with scores on three straight possessions and won, 73–67.
Denna Laing ’14 scored the decisive goal in the third period as WOMEN’S HOCKEY upset No. 10 Harvard, 3–2, in Cambridge Feb. 4. The Tigers were shut out in a loss at Dartmouth Feb. 5.
After sweeping St. Lawrence and Clarkson on the road Jan. 28 and 29, MEN’S HOCKEY dropped a pair of home games to Union and Rensselaer Feb. 4 and 5. With the losses, Princeton slipped from third to sixth in the ECAC standings.
Major League Soccer teams selected two MEN’S SOCCER standouts in the league’s Jan. 18 supplemental draft. The Philadelphia Union chose Josh Walburn ’11 with the 23rd pick, and the New York Red Bulls drafted Teddy Schneider ’11 with the 30th pick.
After falling to Yale in a tight match Jan. 29, MEN’S SQUASH rebounded with convincing wins over Dartmouth and Harvard Feb. 5 and 6 to finish the year 5–1 in Ivy play. In WOMEN’S SQUASH, Princeton topped Stanford and Dartmouth but fell to Harvard in the Tigers’ final home weekend Feb. 4–6.
WRESTLING posted a 1–2 record in its first three Ivy matches Feb. 5 and 6, losing to Harvard and Penn, but beating Brown. Heavyweight Charles Fox ’13 sealed the win over the Bears with a late takedown in the final bout.
