These two EPs (extended plays, which are shorter than CDs) by singer and songwriter Khalil Sullivan are available as free downloads from his Web site http://www.khalilsullivan.com. “In the State” contains a selection of politically-inspired pop songs as well as a cover of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” A companion to his first EP, “Of Love” features meditations on the nature of love through pop, blues, and gospel, as well as one song whose lyrics are based on Jesus’ teachings in the Beatitudes. Sullivan is pursuing a Ph.D. in English at the University of California, Berkeley.
