Cyanotype is a Durham-based chamber improvisation ensemble led by violist and composer Dan Ruccia ’05. Two Silent Schnauzers (Out and Gone Music) is the group’s fully improvised debut album, and besides Ruccia, the group’s membership includes Laurent Estoppey (saxophones), Chris Eubank (cello), and Chris Robinson (baritone saxophone). The album took its name from the two schnauzers that greeted members at the door of sound engineer Dan Lilley’s house. Though rambunctious before the recording session began, the schnauzers fell silent as soon as the musicians played.
