With MAGA’s threats to scores of universities including Princeton, I was pleased with President Eisgruber’s defiant early response. So for the first time I scrutinized biographies to help elect humanistically stalwart alumni trustees. I was looking for alumni candidates who stand up against authoritarian violence, oligarchy, and mechanization. No luck. With the exception of one art/comics entrepreneur, the entire slate is corporatist. Who chooses the candidates — and by what criteria? The slate has racial diversity, but how is it that there is no evident cultural and intellectual diversity?
