Plimpton on Princeton’s Plaid Performers

I was just beginning my unhurried pursuit of a Ph.D. in the religion department when the Sept. 8, 1975, Sports Illustrated had an article by George Plimpton about the sights and sounds of Ivy League football, which observed: “No Ivy League band could perform without downing a couple of kegs of beer, and Princeton’s straw-hatted brass section seems to have done just that.”
