Published Sept. 11, 2024

In this memoir, Gürpinar details his journey as an international student navigating the U.S. in the 1960s. It was a time of profound transformation, marked by the anti-war movement, the rise of the Black power movement, the spirit of Woodstock, and more. A native of Turkey, Gürpinar navigates very different worlds from his home — first in Long Island, New York, then as a Princeton undergraduate student, then to the West Coast where he attended Berkeley, before exploring Texas and New Mexico as well. American Stories (Austin Macauley Publishers) highlights Gürpinar’s growth as a learner and participant throughout this cultural revolution.
