(Hong Kong University Press) This book discusses the paintings of Ma Yuan, one of China’s best-known artists, and a major figure in the golden era of Chinese landscape painting. With more than 300 illustrations, it looks at how Ma Yuan’s painting emerged within the sophisticated environment of Hangzhou in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Edwards is professor emeritus of Far Eastern art at the University of Michigan.
