The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Volume 38: 1 July to 12 November 1802

(Princeton University Press) This book contains the letters of Thomas Jefferson from July to November 1802, during his second year of the presidency. It contains correspondence dealing with Jefferson’s reaction to the declaration of war by the sultan of Morocco and his response to state concerns about free blacks coming from abroad. It also contains a letter alerting the president to accusations laid out by the Richmond Recorder about his illicit relationship with Sally Hemings. Oberg is a senior research scholar, and lecturer with the rank of professor at Princeton University, as well as the general editor of The Papers of Thomas Jefferson.
