Addison Gorgas Brenizer Jr. ’36

ADDISON DIED Sept. 1, 1993, in Charlotte, N.C. He prepared at McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn. After two years at Davidson College, he transferred to Princeton, where he majored in biology and was a member of Elm. He graduated in 1940 from Harvard Medical School and interned for four years at Massachusetts General Hospital.

During WWII, he served four years in the army medical corps, spending the latter part of his army stint as chief of surgery at stations in Guam and Saipan. He retired from active duty in 1948, as a major.

Ad served as chairman of the department of general surgery at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Carolinas Medical Center) for 13 years. He retired in 1985 from a very active practice.

He is survived by his widow, Julie; his mother, Mary; daughters Meridith Sabol, Leigh Barnes, and Nancy Benedict; sons David E. and William S.; two sisters; and 13 grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Ad served his community well in civic endeavors. He was a surgeon of considerable professional skill and enjoyed personal relationships with his host of patients and friends. He was very proud of his association with Princeton and his class. We will indeed remember him.
