Alan G. Rockhold ’66

Body

Alan died Jan. 22, 2011.

Alan graduated from the Principia Upper School in St. Louis, where he played football and baseball. In choosing Princeton he followed a family tradition that included his father, Walter R. Rockhold ’26.

At Princeton, Alan majored in English and joined Tower Club. He took part in IAA sports, Theatre Intime, and Triangle Club.

After graduation he moved to San Francisco and completed half the requirements for a master’s degree in English at San Francisco State before enlisting in the Marines. His service experience included a 13-month tour in Vietnam. After leaving the Marines he first worked for Bank of America in San Francisco and then held writing and editorial positions with a number of publications. Remaining in the Bay Area, he later focused on marketing and public relations and still later on executive-placement consulting.

Alan suffered a stroke in 1995 and four years later retired to Hawaii. In late 2000 he returned to California. For the rest of his life he resided in Petaluma with his longtime partner, Katherine Aberle.

The class extends its condolences to Katherine and to Alan’s sister, Carol.
