Alan Harriman Wright ’51

A graduate of the Buckley School and St. Paul’s, he was a history major at Princeton, belonged to Colonial, and roomed with Cecil Backus, Rayne Herzog, and Maury Jones. In 1954 he earned a law degree from Harvard, and afterward served in the Army for two years. In 1956 he joined the New York law firm of Shearman & Sterling, becoming a partner in 1969. His principal practice was with Citigroup, specializing in commercial-aircraft leases. He retired in 1993. Some years earlier, Alan’s father, who also was a lawyer, had been a senior partner of what was then Shearman & Sterling & Wright.

Alan was active on Long Island’s North Shore, being at one time the village justice of Muttontown and a vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Church in Roslyn. His 1957 marriage to Joyce Thomas ended in divorce.  

Alan died at home Feb. 25, 2008. He is survived by his children, Philip, Glenn, and Melita; seven grandchildren; and his identical twin, Boyd. Donations made to your local animal shelter in his memory would be most appreciated.
