ALAN DIED Sept. 8, 1994, in Lancaster, Penn., after a brief illness. He was 80. He prepared at William Penn Charter School. At Princeton, he majored in political science. He was a member of Campus Club and played freshman lacrosse and 150-lb. football.

During WWII, he served four years with the field artillery in the European Theater and was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the French Croix de Guerre, and three battle stars. He was promoted to lt. col.

Alan worked for 46 years as an executive in the textile industry. retiring in 1982. He was associated with James Lees and Sons Co., Columbia-Minerva Corp., and the Barnat Yarn and Craft Corp. Later, he worked for the Pennsylvania Dutch Visitors Bureau and the Lancaster American Automobile Assn. He also volunteered with the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, was a president of the Natl. Home Knitters Manufacturers Assn., and served Princeton as a regional chairman for Annual Giving.

Alan is survived by wife Anita F., whom he married in 1942; sons Thomas F. and Alan W. III; daughters Deborah T. Weatherston, Ellin T. Nolan, and Lucy T. Graff; and nine grandchildren. We offer our sympathy to his family and salute his meaningful and productive life.
