Albert J. Weinrich ’33

AL WEINRICH died May 17, 1993, in Chapel Hill, NX where he had lived for some years.

Al was born Nov. 6, 1911, in Paterson, N.J. He attended Eastside High. In college, he was president of Whig Hall, secretary of WhigClio, and active in the Intl. Relations Club and THE DAILY PRINCETONIAN. He was a junior Phi Beta, and won a Rhodes Scholarship.

After three years at Oxford, Al became a newspaper reporter in Buffalo. In 1941, he joined B.B.D.O. in Cleveland, later moving to Detroit. He handled the Dodge account and served as V.P. of marketing and research. He retired in 1975 and moved to Chapel Hill in 1987.

On Feb. 25, 1939, A] married Helen Lantz, daughter of the late Martin Lantz '08. She survives, as do their children, Martin C. '63, Katherine Van Geel, James D. '72, and Ann Elise Geary. Their soninlaw Tyll Van Geel is a member of the Class of'62. There are eight grandchildren, including Alexandra Van Geel '93. Al is also survived by a sisterinlaw, Ellen Weinrich. His late brother, Carl, was the noted organist of the University Chapel from 1943 to 1973.

Al was one of our most distinguished members. We had looked forward to seeing him at out 60th, but his health had forced him to cancel shortly before his death. The Class of '33 extends its deep sympathy to all the family.
