Jim died March 8, 2010, of colon cancer.  

Born in Passaic, N.J., he graduated from Willoughby Union High School. His Princeton major was chemistry. He was a member of Terrace Club, and was active in the Cleveland Club, Chemistry Club, and Pre-Medical Society.  

He married Sally in 1953 and was awarded a Ph.D. in chemistry at Princeton in 1959. His professional career as a scientist was spent at Procter & Gamble, Carter Products, Revlon, and the Cleveland Clinic. Jim’s second career was as a missionary with the Ecumenical Institute. He and his wife served in India, Hong Kong, and Taiwan before returning to the States in the 1990s.

Jim began his third career teaching chemistry in Chicago-area community colleges, including Oakton, Harold Washington, and Triton. He was an active member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the administrative council for eight years. He taught Bible classes, tutored the youth evening program, and was active in many church positions.  

The class extends condolences to Sally, Jim’s wife of 56 years; their children Jamie, William, and Katherine; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
