ALEXANDER GRISWOLD KIRBY, age 55, died Oct. 3, 1989. He was born in Louisville on May 14, 1934. As the son of a military family, he traveled widely early in life. His secondary education took place at St. Andrews Academy, in Wilmington, Del., from which he graduated in 1949. At Stanford Univ. his major was mathematics. In 1953 he was graduated and was commissioned into the U.S. Navy. He married in 1961, spent two years at the Navy Post Graduate School in Monterey, Calif., and then came to Princeton, where he received the degree of master of science in aeronautical engineering. Subsequent assignments included flight school in Orlando, Fla.; three tours of duty in Viet Nam; ground duty in San Diego; four years (196872) in Japan; and subsequent service as commanding officer at the Patunxet River Naval Air Station in Virginia * He retired in 1981 and experienced tragic deterioration of his health, until he died in 1989. The Kirbys have two daughters and one son. To them and to Mrs. Kirby we offer sincere sympathy.
