Body

ALFRED C. SCHLESINGER, emeritus professor of classics at Oberlin College, died Apr. 26, 1993, in Williamstown, Mass. He was 93. Professor Schlesinger was born in College Point, N.Y. and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Williams College. He got his Ph.D. at Princeton in classics, specializing in Greek drama.

He was employed by Oberlin College to teach physics and later moved on to teaching classics. He was an inspiring teacher of Greek drama, and he wrote two books and many papers in the field. Meanwhile, he compiled, translated, and edited the final two and a half volumes of the prestigious Loeb Library edition of the Roman historian Liwy. Professor Schlesinger was a scholar of integrity and a superb humorist.

He married Ethyl Towne in 1926 and they had two sons, Charles and Richard. Mrs. Schlesinger preceded him in death. He is survived by their two sons, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, to whom we extend our sympathy.
