Allan Gardner ’40

Mar. 11, 1995, former advertising executive Allan Gardner died in Surrey, England, his principal residence for almost 30 years. His career had been with Young & Rubicom Advertising in the U.S. and Europe. Earlier, he was associated with several other advertising firms.

From St Louis and St. Paul's School, Allan roomed with Alfie Steel and belonged t0 Cottage Club. In WWII, he served in Burma with army intelligence. Allan thoroughly enjoyed his undergraduate years, making many lasting friendships and developing a very solid golf game.

He took pleasure in receiving classmates passing through England. In retirement, Al!an and wife Briggy traveled widely, including to Africa and around the world. He often came to the U.S. for family visits and to see former brother-in-law, classmate George Bright, and dear friend Johnny Lauritzen. For several summers, he enjoyed golfing expeditions with Bob Bordley, Ted Nevins, and George Bright in Scotland and Ireland.

We have lost a good friend, good golfer, and valued classmate. Allan is survived by his widow, Briggy; three daughters; a son; and five grandchildren. To them all, the class offers its sincere sympathy and condolences.
