Allan A. Gilbert ’46

Body

Al came to Princeton from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill. He entered the V-12 Navy program and saw action in the battle of Leyte Gulf as an ensign. He was later promoted to lieutenant junior grade. After graduating from Princeton in 1946, Al received an M.B.A. from Harvard in 1949 and began working in marketing in Chicago.

He soon shifted to management consulting, and in 1976 joined the multinational Emerson Electric Co. as vice president of manpower development. He contributed much to the record growth and success of the company. He retired in 1994 and continued to consult, and stayed active in church, politics, and sports.

In 1950, Al married Gwendolyn Moore who predeceased him by several years. He is survived by three children, Debora D. Gilbert Ryan, Elizabeth M. Gilbert, and Allan M. Gilbert, and two grandchildren. The class extends its sympathy to them all.
