Allan H. McAlpin Jr. ’37
Ardent Princetonian, fly fisherman at Blooming Grove, and great canasta player Allan died Mar. 3, 1995, of various ailments. His wife, Nancy, whom he married in 1939, died in 1991, but he left three sons and eight grandchildren.
At The Hill, where he would later serve as a trustee and then as an honorary trustee, he was on the football and baseball teams, including the championship form team in 1929. He was an outstanding catcher, chairman of Thanksgiving Day Sports in 1932, sixth form show, class treasurer (and later class president), and on numerous committees.
Although he left Princeton early, Allan remained a Princeton enthusiast. He was made an honorary member of Cottage Club, was chairman of the 15threunion liquor committee, and was secretary of the Princeton Club of Northwestern New Jersey. He attended the 20th reunion in a donkey cart and the came to the 25th with his 1928 Chevy station wagon made over into a missile.
He worked at the New York Stock Exchange, of which he was a governor, representing Legg Mason Wood Walker & Co., becoming a general partner in 1949. He spent his career there, except for seven years in the Natl. Guard and the New York State Guard and three years in the Army.
To the whole family, including Apple Pie, we send our heartfelt condolences.
