Allen Aldrich Davis Jr. ’33
Shortly after we had enjoyed the company of Isabel and Allen Davis at the Tides Inn in April, Allen died suddenly at home, in Towson, Md., on July 7, 1989. A service was held on July 10 at the Church of the Redeemer, in Baltimore.
Allen was born on Oct. 22, 1911, in Baltimore. He attended Gilman. In college, he was a member of Whig-Clio and Dial Lodge. He roomed with Hal Wilcox. After college, Allen attended Harvard Law, graduating in 1936. He practiced law in Baltimore and became a partner in the firm of Cook, Ruzicka, Veasey, and Gans. During WWII, Allen served with the Army Air Force in England, attaining the rank of major. In 1946, Allen became general counsel for the Monumental Life Insurance Co., with whom he remained until he retired in 1972 as V.P. and general counsel. Allen was a member of many clubs and was a governor of the Society of the Ark and the Dove.
Allen married Isabel Thorn Barton on Oct. 26, 1940, in Baltimore. She survives him, as do their daughters, Isabel Craig, of Baltimore, and Martha Strachan, of Jacksonville, Fla., and their son, Aldrich Barton Davis, of Baltimore. There are five grandchildren. Allen is also survived by a brother-in-law, Carlyle Barton '44, of Baltimore. The Class of '33 will miss Allen, and we express our deep sympathy to Isabel and all the family.
