Alonzo Burrell Rivers ’52

Ab Rivers died of cancer on Jan. 31, 1989, in Atlanta, Ga. The funeral was in Peachtree Presbyterian Church, the interment was in the family plot in Anderson, S.C.

Ab graduated from the Phillips Academy, and at Princeton he majored in economics and belonged to Ivy Club. His senior roommate was Charlie Harper. After graduation, Ab served with the Army in Korea as an artillery battery commander. Following eight years with Owens-Corning, Ab joined the brokerage firm of Rotan Mosle, in Houston, where he became a member of the board of directors, first V.P., and manager of institutional sales. In 1982, Ab moved to Atlanta, where he was first V.P. of institutional sales at Robinson-Humphrey, Inc. While there, he distinguished himself as an innovator in institutional sales. At his death, this leadership was recognized with a significant notice in the WALL STREET JOURNAL. Known affectionately as Misty to some of his classmates, Ab enjoyed a deep, mutual friendship with colleagues and classmates. He was equally devoted to his fami1y. Beyond his professional affiliations, Ab belonged to the Houston Club and the P.C.N.Y.

He is survived by his widow, Bonnie McFarlane Rivers; his mother, Norma Bass Rivers; and his children, Thomas, Michelle, and Lynn. To them we extend our profound sympathies.
