Alvan Campbell Jr. ’35
ALVAN CAMPBELL JR. died June 14, 1992, in Chevy Chase, Md., where he had been residing with his daughter Elizabeth Clemmer since the death of his wife, Betty, in 1991.
Al prepared at Madison H.S., where he was president of his class, At Princeton he majored in history, winning second group honors in his junior year. He was a member of the cross country and track teams. He roomed with Tom McCabe during 'Sophomore year and with Carl Dittmann during junior and senior years.
After graduation he became associated with the Thermoid Company in Trenton, serving as V.P. of the company for 30 years, before moving to Red Bank in
1963. He was also a member of the Central New Jersey and Monmouth County chapters of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, both founded by his wife, Betty.
For eight years after Betty's multiple sclerosis became very severe, Al devoted much of his time and energy to her care, even as he gradually became ill himself.
Al is survived by two sons, Bruce C. and Finlay, and his daughter Elizabeth, to whom the Class extends its deepest sympathy.
