Alvin H. Behrer Jr. ’45

Al entered Princeton from Scarsdale (N.Y.) High School, following his father, Alvin Behrer 1917. He was an engineering student and a member of Quadrangle Club. He left in June 1943 for three years of service in the Navy and then served in the Reserve as a lieutenant for 20 years. He returned to Princeton in September 1946 and graduated in June 1947.

Al then toured the country, meeting Lois Fletcher on a blind date, and they married in 1948. They had four children — Nancy, David, Dorothy, and Cynthia — who survive with Lois, along with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Al’s working career was in the wholesale plumbing and heating-supply field, first with his family’s business, Behrer-Nason Plumbing and Heating Supply. When that was sold he moved to Cape Cod, where he and Lois owned and operated a cottage colony and he represented a Boston-based wholesaler. He retired from both in 1986.

Al enjoyed his family and playing golf. He was an active member of the Scarsdale and later Brewster (Mass.) Baptist churches, serving as trustee at both. He and Lois worked tirelessly for about 20 years with the Caring Cupboard, which helps feed the needy in the Brewster community. The class expresses its sympathy to the family.
