Amedee Cole Benoist Shields ’34

Body

AMEDEE SHIELDS, as announced in the summer newsletter, died of cancer June 20, 1992. He worked for a variety of companies in St. Louis, including among others, Monsanto; Stix, Baer & Fuller; and U.S. Defense Corp. For several years he shared an apartment with John Davidson and Warren (Pete) Peters, who remember him as "a cheery sort and pleasant to be with." He had left college at the end of sophomore year "mainly on account of those Depression years," he explained. "My dad was a physician, and people weren't paying their doctors' bills." In 1957, "to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city," he moved to Florida and opened a gift shop with his brother in St. Augustine. The venture was shortlived, however, and he returned to St. Louis.

Surviving Am are his widow, Pauline (English); two sons and a stepson; two grandchildren; and his brother, William B. To them we offer our sincere sympathies.
