Andrew E. Palmer ’42

Body

ANDY DIED Apr. 17, 1994, in Hendersonville, N.C., where he had lived since 1982. He retired in 1980 from Oxford Univ. Press in N.Y.C. after 35 years, where he had managed the import department.

Andy prepared at Andover. After Princeton, where he got a degree in biology, he spent nearly four years in the army infantry in the African and European theaters. He also received a Purple Heart and was promoted to captain. Following the war, Andy began his career in book publishing with Alfred A. Knopf and Chester R. Heck, Inc. He then joined Oxford, serving as manager of the wholesale department before moving to the import department.

A dedicated Princetonian, Andy had the ability to poke fun at himself as well as the world about him, combining a keen sense of humor with selfdeprecating cynicism. To his widow, Madge; to his daughter, Ann; and to his two grandsons, the class extends its most profound sympathies.
