Andrew T. Berry ’62

Drew came to Princeton from College High School in Upper Montclair and lived in Westfield, N.J. Drew was in the Woodrow Wilson School and was president of Tower Club and the Interclub Committee. A keyceptor, he also played 150-pound football and worked on the Campus Fund Drive. His senior-year roommates were Rich Thatcher, Rich Dallow, and John McWilliams.  

Drew pulled a coup in college by getting the rock star Chuck Berry to perform at Tower Club. For a more important sequel, he represented the NFL Giants as a lawyer.

After earning his Harvard degree, Drew joined McCarter & English, quickly becoming a partner. As the firm’s chairman from 1997 until his death, he specialized in crisis management, arbitration, and insurance. He also helped broaden the firm’s geographic reach in the Northeast.

A staunch supporter of Princeton, he also was active in civic and governmental efforts — including the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Newark Alliance — that helped transform New Jersey. Drew looked vibrant in a recent photo on the class Web site.

The class extends its condolences to his widow, Gita Rothschild, and to his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren.
