Anthony J. O’Donnell *74

Anthony O’Donnell, a prominent Miami attorney, died June 17, 2010. He was 65.

O’Donnell graduated in 1967 from Emory University, and in 1974 he received a Ph.D. in history from Princeton. While completing his Ph.D. and until 1975, he was an assistant professor of history at the University of Missouri in St. Louis. In 1977, he earned a law degree from the University of Florida Law School, writing for its law review and chairing the board of editors of the Moot Court.

A partner at such well-known Miami law firms as Greenberg Traurig and Akerman Senterfitti, he was involved in major zoning legislation. He later became of counsel with Lehtinen Vargas. O’Donnell was an adjunct professor of law at Miami University Law School from 1983 to 1995. Best Lawyers in America listed him in his field of environmental law.

He was involved in several community activities, and was proud of his long service as a trustee of the Palmer Trinity School.

O’Donnell is survived by Sonia Escobio, his wife of 32 years; their son and daughter; two other sons, including William T. ’97 from his first marriage to Gloria G. Dworit; and five grandchildren.
