Arnold Donahue, a long-time director of intelligence for the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, died peacefully of congestive heart failure Jan. 8, 2017, at the age of 78.

Donahue was a 1960 graduate of Georgetown University. He earned a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School in 1962.

At the OMB, a key agency that prepares the president’s overall budget, Donahue headed its intelligence unit for more than 20 years. Upon retiring, he received the Secretary of Defense Medal for Meritorious Civilian Service and the Intelligence Community Seal Medallion.

After retirement, Donahue was a consultant to the National Academy of Public Administration, which included working as a project director. He was a longtime resident of the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C. For many years, he was a class agent for the Wilson School.

Donahue is survived by three sons and four grandsons.
