Arnold Henry Dater ’38

Body

ARNOLD DIED June 22, 1991, of liver cancer, at home in Fair Lawn, N.J., and went to his final rest clad in the Class jacket and tie he wore with pride to so many reunions over the years.

Dates came from Lawrenceville to major in chemistry. Throughout his 43year business career, he worked for Witco Chemical Co., or its subsidiaries, and became technical director and, later, their specialist in the intricacies of dealing with the federal government, notably the Dept. of Defense.

His affection for Princeton and the Class was evidenced by service on our executive committee and his outstanding reunion attendance. He served many civic groups, including a term as president of the Hawthorn Board of Education and on the board of the Passaic County T.B. and Health Assn. He was a member of the N.Y. Academy of Science, the American Assn. for the Advancement of Science, and both the American Legion and the V.F.W. posts in Fair Lawn. He was also a knowledgeable philatelist.

A son Richard and a stepson Kenneth Madden predeceased him, but he is survived by his widow, Madeline, and two grandchildren. His many friends in the Class send them their sincerest sympathy.
