Arnold Joseph Trattler ’40

Body

With the death of Arnie Trattler on Dec. 1, 1989, the Class has lost yet another distinguished medical figure.

Arnie's career was devoted to general surgery in Manhasset, Long Island, where he had been attending surgeon at the Long Island Hospital, North Shore Univ. Hospital—Cornell Medical Center.

At Princeton Arnie participated on the gym team and in Triangle. With a degree in chemistry, he enrolled in the Long Island College of Medicine, followed by Pacific theater service as a Captain, U.S. Army Medical Corps, and eventually settled in Manhasset upon completion of his residency training. In 1954 Arnie received his Diploma from the American Board of Surgery and was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Despite a demanding professional schedule, Arnie found time for sailing in local and Caribbean waters. Travel, photography, and outdoor sports were high on his list as was his loyal support to Princeton and 1940.

Arnie is survived by his widow, Ruth; daughter, Gail; son, Bruce '67; three grandchildren; and brothers Charles '42 and Richard. To his family, friends, and colleagues the Class sends its deepest sympathy over the loss of this skilled practitioner who touched the lives of so many.
