Arthur Hughes Fawcett ’20
ARTHUR HUGHES FAWCETT, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ., died of cardiac arrest May 4, 1991. He lost his wife, Mary, in 1990 but is survived by two daughters, Pauline Spofford and Temple, and one son, Arthur H. Jr. '51.
Arthur, or "Spig," as his Princeton friends called him, joined the Princeton Naval Unit in 1918. When he later went into business, his organizational gifts soon surfaced. He and Mary lived in Annapolis, and Arthur was soon on the Human Relations Commission and the Citizens Planning and Housing Committee. Together they served on the vestries of St. Ann's and St. Luke's Episcopal churches.
When they moved to Washington, in 1943, Arthur served on the boards of the Foreign Economic Administration, Federal Housing Administration, and EcoDonne Welfare. He was also assistant chief of food procurement for the Board of Economic Welfare,
Arthur became famous in the most original way. fie became the grandfather of triplets. He claimed that since triplets occurred only once in 8,000 people, lie was the only living Princeton grandfather of triplets!
The Class extends its deep sympathy to Arthur's family.
