Arthur Hughes Fawcett Jr. ’51

At Princeton he was a politics major, belonged to Dial Lodge, sang in the chapel choir, rowed with the 150-pound crew, and roomed with Craig Brush, Jerry Rose, and Bob Vivian. He was a member of the crew that won the Thames Challenge Cup for Princeton, and in later years was president of the Potomac Boat Club.

Chip served as a Navy officer in the Far East during the Korean War. In 1957 he earned a master’s in regional planning from UNC-Chapel Hill and in 1981 earned a law degree from Georgetown.

For years Chip was active in urban planning, including the new city of Ciudad Guayana in Venezuela. He was instrumental in forming Washington Parks and People, dedicated to revitalizing parks in the nation’s capital.

In 1987, Chip and Myrna Stoff were married. They started a law firm, working together on elder law and issues involving children and adults with disabilities.

Chip died of pneumonia Nov. 23, 2008. He is survived by Myrna; Miles, his son by his first marriage; his sister, Mary Temple; and two grandchildren.
