“Arthur will be remembered,” wrote the Record/Herald News of northern New Jersey about this city hall regular, “for his style, wit, eloquence, and generosity.”

That reputation extended from Art’s undergraduate days through his many years as city councilor of Clifton, N.J., and his subsequent service as Clifton’s city attorney. There, his work leading two assistant municipal attorneys included preparing Clifton’s ordinances and resolutions, implementing legal actions on behalf of the city, and defending the city in legal actions brought against it. Altogether,
said Art in our 25th-reunion yearbook, it was “a job wwhich I found endlessly interesting if occasionally frustrating.”

Art served as ’46’s class secretary “for five very interesting and enjoyable years.” For 40 years he practiced law with his father in the firm Sullivan & Sullivan, which was founded by his grandfather, Adrian D. Sullivan.

Art’s death Jan. 28, 2013, left his three stepchildren, Peter Benner, Patricia Benner, and Barbara Kaytes, and their families; his daughter, Dana ’89; and two grandchildren. Art’s beloved wife, Joan Drukker Sullivan, who had been his childhood sweetheart, predeceased him in 1983. To all, ’46 sends its condolences.
