Arthur M. G. Moody ’33 *35

Body

ART MOODY, our devoted secretary, died Sept. 26, 1994, of a heart attack. At Princeton (where Art's father, Prof. Lewis Moody, taught and where uncle Arthur Maurice Green was dean of engineering), Art majored in mechanical engineering.

After college, he specialized in turbomachinery, becoming a well-known authority in that field and ending up as chief research engineer with The Trane Co. in La Crosse, Wisc. In Wisconsin, he was increasingly involved with the Episcopal Church. He retired from The Trane Co. in 1967, attended seminary, and became a priest and the rector of a small church in River Falls, Wisc. In 1977, he retired to Cathedral Village in northwest Philadelphia. After retiring, Art often preached in neighborhood churches. Since 1988, he had served as '33's class secretary.

Part of the eulogy given at his funeral by the Rev. Hugh Livengood: "Art was a joyous Christian. His sense of humor made him a good person to be with. He could see the humorous side of most situations and turn the discussion toward a lighter vein. He was well known for his chuckling laughter, constant movement, and sound thinking."

Art married Rebecca Smith in 1939. They had two children, Walton '64 and Mary Elizabeth (who died some years ago and is survived by her husband, Joseph M. Hayman, and two children). His brother Lewis '32 died in August. The class extends its deep sympathy to Becky and the family.
