Born and raised in Yonkers, N.Y., Robin graduated from Gorton High School there before coming to Princeton. He majored in English, played lacrosse, led Colonial Club’s IAA efforts, served as managing editor of the Bric-a-Brac and graduated cum laude.

Robin earned a master’s degree in English at Brown. After a short while in secondary teaching, he earned a bachelor’s of divinity at Union Seminary and entered the Episcopal ministry. He first served in Vermont as assistant minister of Trinity Church, Rutland, before turning to civic service as staff director for the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights.

Robin’s interest in environmental issues led him into a succession of positions in municipal recycling initiatives, first for three years in North Carolina as secretary of the North Carolina Recycling Association; then, in 1975 as director of Phoenix Recycling Service in Oakland, Calif., and surrounding areas. Robin left the ministry in 1982 and devoted his time to the Northern California Recycling Association, where he was recognized regionally as a researcher and educator. He also earned recognition for his work in urban tree planting, especially in the replanting of the streets of Oakland from 2009 to 2018.

Robin died Oct. 14, 2024. He is survived by his four children and two grandchildren.
