Arthur W. Schmidt Sr. ’39

Body

ART DIED Feb. 23, 1994, in Williamsburg, Va. where he had retired in 1981. His last four years had been hard as he went through ups and downs while recovering from a major illness, but characteristically, he managed to have lots of good times through it all. He was lovingly supported by Bert (Bertha Pennington), his wife of 53 years, and they both had the joy of being surrounded by lots of family and friends. Their son, Buzz (Arthur Jr. '74), his wife, and five children lived less than a mile away.

Gifted as both an artist and musician, Art majored in architecture. But for his lifetime career, he turned to insurance, in which he was highly successful; he retired as founding partner of the SchmidtNadel Agency in the tristate region for New England Life. In retirement, Art at last found time to get back to his drawing board, doing illustrations for books on flowers and birds. Besides Bert and son Buzz, Art is survived by their daughter Ann, nine grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren, his sister Hazel, and brother Roger '42. Sharing their sense of loss, we offer our sympathy and continuing friendship with those he loved.
