Audley Earl Burford ’48

Body

The Class is diminished by the death, on May 13, of Earl Burford. Earl experienced a heart attack in the early 1960s and suffered from heart disease intermittently over the years. But there was no time when his love of Princeton and loyalty to his classmates was diminished. He came to Reunions with wondrous regularity.

Earl entered the business of worldwide cotton mer¬chandising with Cook & Co., in Memphis, Tenn. In 1950, he established Cook's subsidiary in Mexico, continuing a lifelong affection for and residence in Mexico City. He later managed Levi Strauss's manufacturing and market¬ing operations in Mexico. And until he retired a year ago, he was president of Litho Formas, the second-larg¬est printing firm in Mexico.

Earl was an avid golfer and skier, but his greatest joy was in his family. He and Alicia were married in 1956. He is survived by his widow and their sons, Earl Jr. and Robert, to whom the class offers deepest sympathy. We share in their loss.
