Austen Leonard Miller ’30

Aus Miller died suddenly not far from his residence at the Boca Teef Apts. in Boca Raton, Fla., just three days before his 81st birthday, on Dec. 28, 1989. His home town and residence area for many years was Rochester, N.Y. where he attended West High School on his way to Princeton. A major extracurricular interest there was swimming, but this changed after freshman year to music via the band, the Banjo Club, and the Triangle Club Orchestra. Whig Hall and Arbor Inn were his clubs. He roomed with John Coon and Don Kilburn. Don, who died in 1980, joined the family in 1933 when he married Aus' twin sister, Margaret, who survives and is living close to Princeton at Monroe Village, Jamesburg. N.J.

Aus went with I.B.M. after graduation and stayed with them for 37 years, until retirement in 1967. He worked in various offices, but stayed close to Rochester where he managed the sales office for 12 years and was active in community organizations such as the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Rochester Sales Club. In 1938, He married Martha McBride, who survives, and he leaves three children: a daughter, Joy Miller Stanton; two sons, Stephen Arms and Austen L. III; and eight grandchildren. A brother, Frederick S. Miller Jr., also survives. To all of them we express our sincere sympathy.
