Avery Sherry ’27

Body

THE CLASS LOST one of its most colorful members when Ave Sherry died of complications of age on No, 12, 1992, in Mequon, Wisc.

Born on Apt. 3, 1904, in Milwaukee, he came to Princeton from Riverside H.S. and made music his trademark as a fouryear member of the Triangle Club and the University orchestra. During summer vacations he led jazz bands on trips to Europe.

After leaving Princeton, he earned an M.B.A. at Harvard Business School and then returned to Wisconsin to run his father's companies, as chairman of the Flambeau Paper Co., treasurer of Flambeau Power Co., and a director of the Winnebago Realty Co.

He was V.P of the Symphonetta Orchestra, forerunner of the Milwaukee Symphony, which Ave helped to found. He was also active in the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre.

In 1931 he married Eileen Schlesinger. In 1936 after his first marriage had ended, he married Elizabeth Brown. Elizabeth died in 1986. Ave is survived by two daughters, Jill Heavenrich and Kathleen Strong. He left nine grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. To them, the Class extends its sympathy.
