Barrie died Feb. 11, 2025, at his home in Kittery, Maine. He was 98.

A native of Philadelphia, Barrie graduated in 1944 from Phillips Exeter Academy. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1944 to 1946. He then enrolled at Princeton, from which he received an A.B. in economics in June 1948. He played freshman lacrosse and was a member of Terrace Club.

Barrie worked for Xerox Corp. from 1956 to 1987. His roles included sales and sales management in Fort Washington, Pa., and serving on the corporate staff in Rochester, N.Y. After retiring from Xerox, he worked as a reprographic business consultant from 1987 to 1989.

Barrie married Elizabeth Jane Voegel shortly after his Princeton graduation and they had three children: Carolyn, Thomas, and Andrew.

When Barrie retired, he and Elizabeth moved to York, Maine, where he became involved in community affairs. He served as president of the York River Farms Homeowners Association and was on the York Planning Board for 16 years. He also founded the York Historical Markers Committee.

Barrie loved the outdoors and had many related hobbies, including biking, camping, fishing, and shooting, as well as woodworking and model ship-building. One obituary noted: “He was an avid fisherman and could be seen paddling and fishing from his kayak on area ponds and the York River into his 90s.”

Elizabeth died in 2014. Barrie is survived by his three children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
