Barry P. Simon ’64

Barry died July 14, 2010, in Boston, from multiple myeloma. He is remembered for his keen intellect, dry sense of humor, and eager competitiveness tempered by a strong sense of decency.  

Barry came to Princeton from Peddie School, where he was yearbook editor and a tennis team member. At Princeton he majored in English, won the Class of 1883 English Prize, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and joined Cloister Inn. Barry married his high school sweetheart, Hinda Bookstaber, during our senior year.  

After Princeton, Barry went to Yale Law School and then embarked on an impressive career, first in cable television as Tele-

prompter’s general counsel, and later as general counsel for Continental, Eastern, and Northwest airlines.  

Barry’s family was paramount in his life. He was uniquely close to his three sons. He delighted in lively discussions at the family’s summer home in Annisquam, Mass., and loved watching his grandchildren play tennis and sail. He and Hinda lived in Houston the last 27 years, where they enjoyed travel, recently showing their grandkids the Paris they loved. Barry was passionate about literature, opera, and tennis, and served on several community boards in Houston.  

The class extends condolences to Hinda; sons Alan, John ’90, and Eric ’96 and their spouses; and his four grandchildren.
