Benjamin Osbun Delaney ’35

Body

BEN DIED unexpectedly of an aneurysm in Silver Spring, Md., on Feb. 2, 1993, at the age of 80.

He came to Princeton from the Hun School and majored in mechanical engineering, graduating with honors.

He was a member of three of Princeton's greatest football teams, including the national championship team of 1934.

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy as an engineer in the Amphibious Command. He retired as a full commander at the end of the war.

In 1948, Ben helped found the Vitro Corp., a systems engineering firm in Silver Spring. He continued with the firm for 29 years, retiring as V.P. In addition to his many technical contributions, he was credited with expanding Vitro's systems engineering work with a focus on high principles and customer satisfaction.

Ben was very active in community affairs and was a member of the P.T.A., a Boy Scout leader, and a vestryman in his church. In retirement, he occupied himself with the family's home and houseboat, gardening, and construction of magnificent mahogany furniture.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nina Miller Delaney; two daughters, Dabney D. Leonard and Susan D. Pyles; a son, Benjamin O. Jr. and five grandchildren. The Class extends its most sincere sympathies to them all.
