Ben Howell, a gentleman of good will and cheerful humor, died in Ft. Lauderdale Apr. 6, 1995, He had semi-retired there in 1970, working as a taxi driver and a messenger-service courier until declining health ended these activities.

Brought up in Norwalk, Conn., Ben came to Princeton from the Asheville School in North Carolina, served on the business board of the Tiger, and was in Theatre Inrime.

He left college in the summer of 1939, took a job with Norwalk's Hat Corp. of America, then joined the Navy and became a "tin can" sailor on the destroyer U.S.S. Smith in the Pacific. After the war, he had a 25-year career on Wall Street with Eastman, Dillon; Clarke, Dodge; Winslow, Cohu & Stetson; and Weis, Voisin & Cannon, He always supported both Princeton and his prep school.

Ben is survived by son, Peter; two sisters; a niece; a granddaughter; and three grandnieces, His ashes will be interred in the family plot at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norwalk. We mourn his passing and extend our condolences to his family.
