Berry H. Edwards ’53

Body

Berry, who received his law degree from Harvard Law School, spent two years in the Army judge advocate general’s corps, practiced law in El Paso, Texas, and founded a private real-estate company before building a flourishing water-attractions project, died of an apparent heart attack Dec. 7, 2010, in his native El Paso.

An Austin High School graduate, Berry studied English at Princeton, took his meals at Quadrangle, and rowed 150-pound crew. His roommates were Bob Gordon, Al Osborne, Joe Quinn, and John Wallace. He and his wife, Helen, shared a love of the outdoors and hiked and camped all around the Southwest.

Taking the cue from his son, Doran, Berry built Wet ‘n’ Wild Waterworld on his campground property. The facility contained over 25 water attractions and proved to Berry that “a true oasis” could be built and thrive in the West Texas desert.

Surviving our adventuresome and imaginative classmate are his wife; daughter Chandra Cottingham; sons Conan and Devon A. ’05; a sister, Katharine Crain; and stepdaughter Jacqueline Cottingham. We send this celebration of his life to his family and friends.
